Prominent sources

  • The main source is Kassen 2016, a master's thesis in German from the Leuphana University Lüneburg. It was published by GRIN Publishing. Kassen 2016 is the source for numerous, extensive passages and illustrations that have been translated word-for-word without ever giving reference to the source. Out of a total of 82 plagiarized text passages, 38 are largely verbatim translations from this thesis.
  • Another important source that is also never mentioned in the thesis is the German Wikipedia. Extensive passages and illustrations have been translated from Wikipedia Solow-Modell 2018.

Prominent findings

The suspicion of plagiarism concerns, among other things, extended passages of text.

  • 14 fragments extend to an entire page.
  • Some sub-chapters consist entirely, or almost entirely, of text translated from sources for which there is no corresponding reference.
    • Chapter 3.4 with its subchapters extends from page 46 to 58. It is almost completely (including the illustrations) translated from Kassen 2016 without the source ever being mentioned. Exceptions to this are 3 lines on page 46 and 2 lines each on page 47 and 48, for which no takeover could be ascertained so far, as well as 10 lines on page 47, which were translated from another German-language source Steinhardt 2006 without a corresponding reference.
    • Other shorter chapters consist exclusively of text translated almost word-for-word from the German-language Wikipedia (Wikipedia Solow 2018) without citing the source:
    • Chapter 3.2, which runs from page 31 to 33, is also taken over in its entirety and is a collage of two different, unnamed sources: Schmieder 2016 and Kohlmeier Schimany 2005.
  • Out of 18 sources identified for documented text parallels, 14 of them are not mentioned in the thesis at all.

Critical reception by the thesis supervisor and the opponents
